Why MT5 needs an always-on home at all

The latency myth, honestly
VPS marketing leans hard on “1 ms to your broker”. That matters for high-frequency and tick-scalping strategies — which, if you trade prop firms, are forbidden practices anyway. For alert-driven trading, the pipeline is TradingView → bridge → EA → broker: our published bridge latency is 187 ms median, and your broker's own execution adds the rest. Moving the terminal from Madrid to a New York rack changes single-digit milliseconds in a journey of hundreds. Buy a VPS for uptime, never for latency, unless you know exactly why you need it.
When a real VPS is genuinely the right call
- You run several MT5/MT4 terminals from different vendors plus other software (copiers, custom scripts) and want one Windows box you fully control.
- Your strategy is latency-sensitive by design and your broker allows it — then pick a VPS in your broker's data-center region.
In both cases a dedicated trading VPS beats a generic cloud box unless you genuinely enjoy Windows administration: the $6 Contabo becomes expensive the first weekend an unattended update leaves your terminal logged out.
