MT5 on Your Phone — with your EA running 24/7.

First, the fact most listicles skip: the official MetaTrader 5 app cannot run Expert Advisors - or custom indicators. It is built for manual trading and monitoring, full stop. So "MT5 on your phone" with an EA really means one thing: the EA runs on a terminal somewhere else, and your phone is the window into it. Here are the three honest ways to set that up, and what each one feels like on a six-inch screen.

The hard truth: the MT5 app doesn't run EAs.

THE APP IS THE REMOTE CONTROL, NOT THE ENGINE.

What the MT5 mobile app does
Manual trading + monitoring

Real-time quotes, charts, opening and closing trades by hand, checking balance, equity and open positions. It logs into your broker account and shows whatever the account is doing - including trades an EA placed somewhere else.

A window into your account
What it will never do
Run your automation

No Expert Advisors, no custom indicators, no strategy tester. There is no "attach EA" button in the iOS or Android app: EAs are compiled desktop programs that only execute inside a desktop MetaTrader 5 terminal.

No EAs, no custom indicators

Every "mt5 mobile app ea" search lands on the same forum answer: the app does not run Expert Advisors, and MetaQuotes has never shipped that feature. The app is a companion - watch the account, manage a trade by hand, check the charts on the train. Everything automated has to live somewhere else.

So the useful question is never "how do I run an EA on my phone" - it is where does the terminal that runs my EA live, and how do I reach it from my phone. Your own PC, a rented VPS, or a managed MT5 cloud: those are the three workable answers, and they trade money, admin time and ergonomics against each other.

OPTION A

Your PC stays on, your phone remotes in.

The zero-cost route, and where most people start. Leave the home PC running with MT5 open and the EA attached, then connect from the phone with Chrome Remote Desktop or TeamViewer - both free for personal use, both a fifteen-minute install on each end. When it works, you are looking at your real terminal from the sofa.

Two catches, both structural. First, the PC becomes your single point of failure: it has to stay awake around the clock, and one Windows Update reboot or power blip kills the terminal until someone physically walks over (we costed the whole always-on-PC route in how to run MT5 without a VPS). Second, the ergonomics: you are steering a desktop built for a mouse and a 1080p monitor from a six-inch touchscreen - pinch-zoom, drag the pointer, aim at a 10-pixel OK button.

Verdict: perfect as the emergency hatch for closing a trade from the road. As the daily way to run an EA from your phone, it is the clunkiest option on this page.

OPTION B

RDP into a traditional VPS.

If your EA already lives on a rented Windows VPS, the phone comes along at no extra cost: Microsoft's Remote Desktop app (iOS and Android) connects to the same box your PC does. Uptime is the VPS's job, so the phone is just a viewer - close the app mid-trade and nothing on the server changes. That part is genuinely good.

The pain is the same desktop-on-a-phone problem, plus RDP's own quirks on mobile: the virtual keyboard covering half the screen, right-click buried behind a long-press, scrolling fighting zooming, and a session that renegotiates every time mobile data hops between cell towers. And "free" only applies to the app - the VPS itself is a monthly bill plus admin hours, with the real numbers in our Best VPS for MT5 cost guide.

If you already pay for and maintain a VPS, use this - it costs nothing extra and the uptime is real. But nobody should rent and administer a Windows server purely to give their phone a better MT5 viewer.

OPTION C

A managed MT5 cloud, in the phone's browser.

The third route removes the remote app entirely: the terminal opens in Safari or Chrome like any other page. SFCloud is a fully managed MetaTrader 5 in the cloud - MT5 pre-installed, your own isolated environment auto-provisioned in minutes after payment, access through KasmVNC in the browser. No RDP client, no companion app, nothing installed on the phone at all.

What makes it usable on a touchscreen instead of merely possible is the purpose-built trackpad mode: toggle it on and the screen behaves like a laptop trackpad - drag to move a visible cursor crosshair, tap to click, two fingers to scroll. You stop aiming your fingertip at desktop-sized buttons. The EA side is unchanged: upload your .ex5/.mq5/.set files in one click and run any Expert Advisor on SFCloud - and one SFCloud carries up to 3 MT5 terminals with the built-in launcher, so a main account and a prop-firm demo live under one price.

Two things stated plainly, as always on this site. Your broker credentials stay yours: you type them directly into MT5 inside your private session, over TLS-encrypted, per-client isolated access hosted in an EU data centre - SignalForge never requests, stores or sees them. And the price is a flat $6.99/mo founder offer, cancel anytime - the bundle maths with the bridge live on the pricing page.

PHONE VS DESKTOP

What you can - and can't - do from the phone.

From the phone, comfortably
The daily managementcockpit work
  • Monitor positions, equity and exposure in real time
  • Attach, remove or retune the EA - inputs and .set files
  • Open or close trades by hand when you override the automation
  • Upload a new EA build in one click
  • Read the Experts and Journal tabs when something looks off
Leave it to a big screen
The heavy liftinghangar work
  • Multi-year backtests and optimizations - possible in a pinch, miserable as a habit
  • Building multi-chart layouts with a dozen windows
  • First-time broker logins with server hunting and 2FA - do the initial setup at a desk, then manage from the phone

Think of the phone as the cockpit, not the hangar: monitoring and quick changes from anywhere, building and testing at a desk. MT5 from your phone covers the cockpit half; the hangar half has not moved.

FAQ

Quick questions.

Email [email protected] if yours isn't here.

Can the MT5 mobile app run Expert Advisors?

+
No. The official MetaTrader 5 app for iOS and Android is for manual trading and monitoring only: it cannot run Expert Advisors or custom indicators. An EA only executes inside a desktop MT5 terminal - your PC, a VPS, or a managed MT5 cloud - and the phone is the window you reach it through.

Can I run my EA from my iPhone or Android phone?

+
Yes, indirectly. The EA runs on an always-on terminal somewhere else, and the phone reaches that terminal: a remote-desktop app if it lives on your PC or VPS, or simply the browser if it runs on a managed MT5 cloud like SFCloud. Close the phone and the EA keeps trading.

Do I need to install anything on my phone?

+
For the official app route, the app itself. For remoting into a PC or VPS, a remote-desktop app. With SFCloud, nothing: the terminal opens in Safari or Chrome through KasmVNC, with a trackpad mode built for touchscreens.

Is it safe to check my trading account from my phone?

+
Yes, with the usual phone hygiene. Use the official app or an encrypted connection: SFCloud access runs over TLS with per-client isolation, and you type your broker credentials directly into MT5 inside your private session - SignalForge never requests, stores or sees them. Keep the phone locked and prefer mobile data or trusted Wi-Fi.

Can I trade manually on the MT5 app while my EA runs in the cloud?

+
Yes. Both look at the same broker account: trades your EA opens in the cloud terminal appear in the app, and manual trades you place in the app appear in the terminal. Just know which positions are the EA's - it manages its own (they carry its magic number), and your manual ones are yours to manage.
