Quick answer

$100,000 with a 10% target, a 5% daily loss and a 10% max loss: $10,000 to pass, $5,000 per day and $10,000 in total. At 1% risk per trade you can lose 5 trades in a day and 10 in the challenge.

Example values, not a statement of any firm's current rules: 10% target, 5% daily loss, 10% max loss and 4 minimum trading days. Change them to the ones in your dashboard. The planner does not include consistency rules, news restrictions, weekend holding, lot limits or payout rules.

How the challenge math works

A prop-firm challenge is three numbers and a calendar. Four steps:

  1. Target = account × target %. On $100,000 at 10%, $10,000.
  2. Daily loss = account × daily %. 5% of $100,000 is $5,000 for that day.
  3. Max loss = account × max %. 10% of $100,000 is $10,000 for the whole challenge.
  4. Per day = target / minimum days. $10,000 over 4 days is $2,500 a day.

Daily loss vs max loss

The daily loss resets every trading day; the max loss is measured from the initial balance (or from the highest balance, depending on the firm). Both can fail the challenge. On a $100,000 account, a $5,000 daily loss is 5%; a $10,000 max loss is 10%. If you are down $4,000 and lose $1,500 more in the same day, the daily limit is gone even if the total loss is only 5.5%.

How many trades can I lose?

Divide the loss limit by the risk per trade. At 1% risk, a 5% daily limit is five losing trades and a 10% max limit is ten. At 2% risk it is 2.5 and 5: the half trade counts, so plan for two and four. Spread, commission and slippage are part of the risk; leave a margin.

The minimum-days trap

Hitting the target on day two does not pass the challenge if the firm requires four trading days. The planner shows the per-day target so you can see whether the pace is realistic; it does not skip the calendar.

FTMO-style example

The default values are an FTMO-style example: 10% target, 5% daily loss, 10% max loss and 4 minimum trading days. They are not a statement of FTMO's current rules and this tool is not affiliated with FTMO. Check your dashboard: some firms use equity instead of balance, different minimum days, consistency rules or news restrictions.

What the planner does not include

Consistency rules, news-trading bans, weekend-holding rules, lot limits, payout rules, commissions and slippage. It is a calculator for the four numbers that decide most challenges, not a compliance checklist.

FAQ

THE CHALLENGE QUESTIONS THAT COME UP MOST, FROM DAILY LOSS TO MINIMUM DAYS.

01

How does a prop firm challenge work?

You trade a simulated account with a profit target, a daily loss limit and a maximum loss limit. Hit the target inside the rules and you move to verification or funding; break a loss limit or the minimum days and the challenge fails. The exact percentages and days are set by each firm.

02

What is the difference between daily loss and max loss?

The daily loss resets every trading day; the max loss is measured from the initial balance (or from the highest balance, depending on the firm). A 5% daily limit on a $100,000 account is $5,000 for that day; a 10% max loss is $10,000 for the whole challenge.

03

How many trades can I lose at 1% risk?

With a 5% daily loss and 1% risk per trade, five losing trades in one day hit the limit. With a 10% max loss, ten losing trades in total hit the challenge limit. Spread and commission are part of the risk, so leave a margin.

04

How much do I need to make per day?

Divide the target by the minimum trading days: 10% on $100,000 is $10,000; over 4 days it is $2,500 per day. You can make it faster in calendar days, but the minimum days still apply before the challenge can pass.

05

Do I pass as soon as I hit the target?

Only if you also meet the minimum trading days and the rest of the rules (consistency, news, holding, lot limits). Hitting the target early does not skip the minimum days in most firms.

06

Does this work for FTMO and other firms?

The arithmetic works for any firm: change the target, daily loss, max loss and minimum days to the ones in your dashboard. The default values are an FTMO-style example, not a statement of FTMO's current rules.

07

Is this tool affiliated with FTMO?

No. SignalForge AI is not affiliated with FTMO or any prop firm. The planner is a calculator; the rules that count are the ones in your firm's dashboard and contract.
