USDJPY on TradingView, from chart to MT5 order.
The dollar-yen is the second most-traded pair in the world and one of the most-watched charts on TradingView. This is the practical walkthrough: how to open USDJPY, which name your broker actually uses, what makes the yen move on its own schedule, and how to turn a USDJPY alert into a real MetaTrader 5 order.
The chart everyone watches.
ONE RATE, A DOZEN DATA FEEDS
Search USDJPY on TradingView and every major provider offers it: OANDA:USDJPY, FOREXCOM:USDJPY, FX:USDJPY and more. Underneath, they all track one price: how many yen one US dollar buys. The differences between feeds are update speed and small built-in spreads, not different markets. The same discipline as with any symbol applies: pick one chart and stay on it, because your indicator logic and alerts should live on a single source of data.
And the same hard limit: TradingView is analysis only. The chart will never send an order anywhere by itself — execution is the job of the alert and whatever receives it, which for MT5 traders means a bridge.
The symbol your broker uses.
USDJPY, USDJPY.M, USDJPY.R — COPY THE MARKET WATCH STRING
Like every forex pair, dollar-yen wears broker-specific names in MetaTrader: plain USDJPY on some, USDJPY.m on micro/standard accounts, USDJPY.r or USDJPY.pro on raw accounts. The failure mode is the classic silent one: the alert fires on TradingView, no order opens in MT5, and the only clue is a rejected symbol buried in the log. The cure is boring and absolute — open Market Watch (Ctrl+M), copy the exact string, use it in the alert JSON. The SignalForge EA resolves the common suffixes (.m, .r, .pro, .raw and friends) on its own; the full walkthrough is in wrong symbol, lot size or account in MT5.
The yen runs on its own clock.
TOKYO OPENS THE DAY — AND THE BOJ CAN END IT
USDJPY trades nearly 24/5 like every major pair, but its personality is session-dependent. The Tokyo morning builds the Asian range that many strategies trade against all day. London adds flow, and the New York overlap usually delivers the widest ranges of the session. Then there is the yen-specific layer: Bank of Japan decisions, Japanese inflation prints, the Tokyo fixing, and the ever-present possibility of verbal or actual intervention when the yen moves too far, too fast. Intervention days have moved USDJPY several full figures in minutes — spread wide, liquidity vanished, stops gone.
Automation does not remove that; it makes you explicit about it. Trade the events on purpose or filter them: the news filter pauses execution around releases, and alerts can carry expiries so nothing stale fires into a repriced market.
From alert to MT5 order.
AUTOMATE THE PAIR WITHOUT REBUILDING ANYTHING
The automation itself is one alert on your USDJPY chart with your webhook URL and the JSON body:
{
"symbol": "USDJPY",
"action": "buy",
"lot": 0.1,
"sl": 25,
"tp": 50
}
Two JPY-specific notes. Sizing: the yen quotes with two decimals, so a standard-lot pip is worth about 1,000 yen rather than 10 dollars — and its dollar value floats with the rate. Convert your stop distance with the lot size calculator, which handles JPY pairs, instead of copying a lot from a EURUSD habit. Fields: the body is the same schema in the webhook JSON examples; swap the literal for {{ticker}} if one template should serve several charts. SignalForge carries the alert into MetaTrader 5 in milliseconds and the EA manages SL, TP and trailing — the path described in the bridge guide. Rehearse on demo first (the paper trading pattern), and on funded accounts let Prop Firm Shield enforce the daily loss limit across everything the pair fires. Gold and cable get the same treatment in the XAUUSD and GBPUSD guides.
Plan for the tail: on USDJPY the tail event is known by name. If your strategy holds through news or overnight, size so that a 200-pip gap against you is survivable; if it does not, encode the session filter. The bridge executes at millisecond speed either way — the sizing decision is still yours, made before the alert fires.
